Valencia Carnival 2026: complete guide to events and plans

Do you know when Carnival takes place and what it celebrates? While many people associate Carnival with famous destinations such as Cádiz, Valencia also celebrates Carnival with its own identity, unique cultural proposals and plans for all audiences.

At Museo Iluziona, we’ve prepared a complete guide with all the information you need to enjoy Carnival in Valencia in 2026, whether you’re visiting with children, friends, family or as a couple.

When is Carnival and why is it celebrated?

Carnival does not have a fixed date. It is celebrated just before Lent, the 40-day period leading up to Easter in the Christian calendar.

In 2026, Carnival in Valencia will take place from February 7 to February 15.

Traditionally, Carnival marked the last great celebration before a time of fasting and restraint. This is why costumes, satire, creativity and freedom are such essential elements of the festivities.

Today, beyond its religious origins, Carnival is a perfect excuse to enjoy the streets, celebrate popular culture and experience the city in a different way.

Russafa Carnival 2026: the festive epicentre

Within the city, Russafa Carnival has become one of the most iconic celebrations. Russafa is a creative, multicultural neighbourhood deeply involved in Valencia’s cultural life, which is reflected in its Carnival programme.

In 2026, the celebration expands to include the neighbourhoods of Malilla, Fuente de San Luis and Monteolivete.

The programme is wide-ranging, free and designed for all ages, featuring parades, live music, urban art, street markets and gastronomy.
